Welcome
to d’Nalatac Catalonian Sheepdogs.
Thank
you for your interest and research to find this rare
treasure. We
are Ken and Laura Hahn and are happy to share our history
with this wonderful dog.
Both of us have been involved with animals and dogs
all our lives. Ken
grew up with the responsibility of training and caring for purebred
Standard Poodles and American Cocker Spaniels. Laura grew
up with “look what followed me home” and a very
patient mother. As
adults, we both continued our passion for dogs through
canine rescue efforts.
(Laura also graduated from Veterinarian Technician
school in 1980, to further her education about animals in
general.)

"Purna
the Rescue Dog." |
Our
interest in the Catalonian Sheepdog was sparked with a
chance rescue of a stray, pregnant dog in March of
1998. After we did a great deal of research to
determine her possible heritage, it became apparent that
she had potential to have been related to the Gos
d’Atura Català or Catalonian Sheepdog.
We became intrigued by the Catalonian Sheepdog’s
centuries old history, high intelligence, family
compatibility, lack of health problems, as well as its
gentle expression. After
several years of research, we moved to the country and
were ready to expand our family. A trip to the Catalonia region of Spain brought us our first
breeding pair
of dogs and from there began d’Nalatac Catalonian
Sheepdogs.

We are
committed to developing a strong line of Catalonian
Sheepdogs in the United States, that reflects the
original purity of their ancestors.
Our dogs are direct descendants of the long
line of Spanish and International Champions.
Interesting
Facts about Catalonian Sheepdogs:
The
Catalonian Sheepdog, known also as Catalan Sheepdog or
Gos d’Atura Català, dates
back over 300 years as a breed, once came close to
extinction and is now becoming popular as
its endearing qualities become more recognized.
While still used extensively as a herding dog, its’
intelligence, obedience and friendliness with both
people and other animals makes
it an ideal companion. While the breed is well-known in Europe,
fewer
than 200 dogs of Spanish origin live in the USA. [read
